Thruxton W I

We are a small,friendly WI, currently with 15 members. We usually meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm in the Machin Room, at Thruxton War Memorial Hall. As well as our regular meetings, we organise walks on summer evenings which often end up with a pub meal and enjoy visits to the theatre and ballet, as well as other activities suggested by members. We have a day's outing in June, a tea party in August and a Christmas meal in December. We also take part in actitivies organised by other local WIs and the Hampshire Federation, such as skittles tournaments and quizzes.

We are active in our local community. We have started a singing group which is open to everyone, and which has recently started to sing occasionally at a local nursing home. We run drop in tea sessions on alternate Wednesday afternoons to coincide with visits from the mobile library van. We run a tea stall at the annual village fete on the first Sunday in June. Last year we were successful in two bids for grants from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation Grassroots grant scheme. The first of these grants was used to buy songbooks for the singing group, and the second was for printing costs of a fundraising cookery book we are producing to mark our 90th anniversary this year.
