Holybourne WI

About our WI

We are a friendly Institute, always ready to welcome visitors and new members. We have many varied interests and try to reflect these in our programme.
In 2011 we were introduced to painting with watercolours, had fun with flowers, enjoyed easy cake icing and had tips and hints from a WI judge. We were amused and educated by The Gilks who dressed up and showed us articles of interest Below Stairs and Julie Horton with All that Jazz. A special speaker for December was Ole Mpario introducing us to the Life of the Masai.
We take part in the activities of the Alton Group such as skittles, general knowledge quiz and the twice yearly group meetings where there is always an excellent speaker. These meetings are a good chance to meet up with members of other Institutes.
In the years since our WI restarted in 1974, after a break of a few years, we have taken part in various village activities. Although our interests may be wide ranging, we are still often asked to provide cakes and refreshments for village occasions! In 2011 we provided teas for the village fundraising effort for Help for Heroes and provided the refreshments for the Mayor's retirement party. We also held a charity lunch in a member's garden.
Look at our programme for 2012, choose a talk (or talks) that interests you and come along to Holybourne Village Hall. Our meetings begin at 7.30 p.m. on the third Thursday in each month. We will be very pleased to welcome you.
