Welcome to Charlton WI. We are a thriving group of ladies with lots of different interests, not necessarily of the Jam and Jerusalem sort - some of us do have cooking skills, which are displayed whenever we have an open meeting. A group of about 9 members and friends meet in each others houses once a month on a Thursday afternoon, to do our own thing in the craft line, be it tapestry, embroidery or just knitting, and enjoy a cup of tea and a natter at the same time. We also have an enthusiastic walking group, who meet every Tuesday morning, usually trekking locally for approximately 5 miles, with either a coffee break stop half way, or at the end of the walk. Sometimes there are navigational difficulties, but we take it all in good part, and have a few laughs along the way.A newly started Scrabble group welcome new participants.14 members have started an Art Group for beginners. We regularly have outings and evening skittles or walks to incorporate family or friends.2011 was a busy year we enjoyed a trip to London to see The Railway Children or just to go shopping. Our annual outing was a trip to Hampton Court which coincidently was the anniversary of Henry VIII and Catherine Parr in 1543. We also supported the local theatre on many occasions. We as a WI helped raise money for the Church Hall by a member and her famiy doing 3 Cryptic dinners. Much fun and hillarity was had by all who attended and organized the events. The monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday at 7.45pm in St Thomas Church, Charlton. The programme for 2012 is as follows. |
