Welcome to Charlton WI. We are a thriving group of ladies with lots of different interests, not necessarily of the Jam and Jerusalem sort - some of us do have cooking skills, which are displayed whenever we have an open meeting. A group of about 9 members and friends meet in each others houses once a month on a Thursday afternoon, to do our own thing in the craft line, be it tapestry, embroidery or just knitting, and enjoy a cup of tea and a natter at the same time. We also have an enthusiastic walking group, who meet every Tuesday morning, usually trekking locally for approximately 5 miles, with either a coffee break stop half way, or at the end of the walk. Sometimes there are navigational difficulties, but we take it all in good part, and have a few laughs along the way.A newly started Scrabble group welcome new participants.14 members have started an Art Group for beginners. We regularly have outings and evening skittles or walks to incorporate family or friends.2009 was a busy year we enjoyed trips to Buckingham Palace, Highgrove, and a Walk round Southampton as well as supporting the local Theatre. We had a lovely meal to celebrate our silver anniversary in May. We raised funds with 3 race nights of course most of us lost all our money (good job it was only play money) The overall winner turned out to be one of our lovely WI husbands. We are very lucky to have in our Institute many a good WISH. This is of course our WI Supporting Husbands where would we be without them. The monthly meetings held on the second Tuesday at 7.45pm in St Thomas Church, Charlton. The programme for 2010 is as follows. |
