Andover Afternoon WI

About our WI

Andover Afternoon WI meets on the first Wednesday of each month, at St Mary's Church Centre, Marlborough Street, Andover, at 2pm. In August there is usually be a Social Afternoon, at a different venue. Often a Tea Party sat e member's home.

The Church Centre is next to the West Door of St Mary's Church. The way into the room used is up some stairs, but advice can be given for those who cannot manage stairs.
Andover Afternoon WI was founded in July 1981, and celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2006 with a special meeting and lunch held in Andover Guildhall.
The WI is a lively group of about 40 members. In 2009 members enjoyed a busy and interesting year, with informative speakers on a variety of subjects. The members have enjoyed social meetings, usually involving food. They have learnt about the Antarctic, Venice, the Legends around King Arthur, and been informed about Independent Living and making Wills. On the lighter side they have been entertained by Mr Peter Redmond and enjoyed some Social afternoons. The year ended with 'Visual Illusions' showing the members the tricks the eyes and brain can play.
Members have attended the Anton Group Meetings. At the Autumn Meeting 6 members were part of the entertainment provided by all 7 WIs in the Group for the members. Members have attended the Spring and Autumn meetings of HCFWI, and some of the other event organised by the Hampshire County Federations of WIs.
It is expected that there will be a WI outing in the summer of 2010. Arrangements yet to be made.
